Bad Obsession Motorsport - Project Binky

The first installment of Project Binky. Can two basket cases from Shropshire create one serious Mini? We're attempting to build the fastest Mini on the planet. The plan is to try and shoehorn all the engine and running gear from a Toyota Celica GT4 into a rotten Mini. Can we do this monster engine swap? Can we build an Austin Mini GT4? Join us on this roller coaster ride of a build.

These are some of the outtakes from the shooting of the trailer for Project Binky. Those of a nervous disposition should not watch this video.

Recorded on New Years Day after a heavy night of Jack Daniel's, here's the two of us from Bad Obsession Motorsport, hungover answering a bunch of eclectic questions from you lot on the build of Project Binky.

We make many mistakes, we shoot many takes, we swear - a lot. These are some of the outtakes from filming the first eight episodes of Project Binky. Hopefully it'll give you a better insight into what we go through to bring you Project Binky. There's very strong language from the start.

After a major disaster smashing one of our tea mugs, we thought it might be fun to attempt to TIG weld the thing back together. Here's how it went down...

Here's another Q&A video; the second installment. Shot in a freezing cold workshop, we hope this explains some of the burning questions you might have. There's plenty of questions unanswered, so we might shoot another one, time willing. Don't worry, work continues on the Mini... Hope you enjoy it!

This is part one of how we made the flexi-shaft auxiliary drive system in episode 20 of Project Binky. There was far too much to show in the normal episode run-time, so we thought we'd make an additional series of videos going into a bit more detail of how we did it.

This is part two of how we made the flexi-shaft auxiliary drive system in episode 20 of Project Binky. In this part, we make the brackets to hold the alternator, a pulley, an adaptor and then put it all together. There was far too much to show in the normal episode run-time, so we thought we'd make an additional series of videos going into a bit more detail of how we did it. Hope you enjoy it.

Just a quick video detailing what's coming up after the mini is completed. And a call for some help...

In part one of our side project, we take a 34 year old ex-library bus and begin its transformation into what we hope will be a hotel on wheels with the added bonus of being able to transport any of our vehicles at the same time. The venerable truck needs to go on a diet, so out come the power tools...

This is a video on how we went about creating a lifting, lowering, movable hydraulic platform capable of supporting around a tonne. Nothing suitable was available to buy, so we made one. This is how we did it.

In part two of our side project, we continue the transformation of a 34 year old ex-library bus into a hotel on wheels/car transporter. In this part, we try and shed a little more weight from the truck by taking a look at what lurks beneath the floor...

In part 3 of our side project, we play with a telehandler, do powerslides around a damp field and replace the engine in the Cargo.

We try and answer some of the more frequent questions we get asked across our social media platforms. Doing it this way was significantly less arse than replying individually.

In part 4 of our side project, Nik reveals his cunning plan much to Richard's chagrin. We do some more stripping, more drilling, and there's a lot more impact gun action. The front axle gets some attention as we aim to get the truck back on her wheels.

We figured in the current rather uncertain climate you might like to have a laugh at our expense. So we whipped up another one of our outtakes videos - the first for a while - to hopefully bring you some cheer. With hours and hours of footage shot for each episode, we're bound to get some things wrong. And we get it wrong more than most probably. Feast on our f-ups; we hope you get a kick out of them!

In part 5 of our side project, we swap the rear axle for a much more modern unit from the DAF. But not before making even more mess of the poor old Cargo. The running gear exchange gets completed.

After the public vote for the top 25, we choose a Semi-Finalist for @DEBOSS GARAGE International Quarantine Car Show - Bracketry category.

In episode 31 of Project Binky, we briefly showed the old Toyota Celica transmission being cleaned and rebuilt. This is the long version.

Faced with the reality of having to make a complete set of extended wheel arches for our turbo charged, 4WD monster mini, a chance meeting with a mad Spaniard gave us pause for thought. What if we could get someone else to do it? That was the main motivation behind this experiment in creating a bespoke body kit from 3D printed plastic.

It’s not often you get to see the nitty gritty of a retrimming project, so we thought it might be cool to let you all in behind the scenes at Trimworks while Dean brought Nik’s vision for Binky’s seats to life. There’s hog rings and listings, stitching and scrim foam and all kinds of terms I’d never come across before. Dean is an artist, so it was fantastic to watch him work his magic.

Well it was inevitable really, all good shows eventually pull one together while they’re working on the next episode. And yes we have been working on it, learning new skills and pioneering new techniques and we're almost at the end of a mammoth task. While we put the finishing touches to it, here's the Best of Binky Gag Reel!

Faced with some clearance issues, we needed a printed circuit board, but with no electronics experience, how would we go about that? Well, we figured we might just be able to print our own! Here's what went into making the PCB in Episode 39 of Project Binky, and why it took so long to get that episode to you!

It's been a while and due to popular demand, we figured there's probably three of you that still want to know what's going on with the R/V Camper, Motorhome, Race Transporter vehicle we started eons ago. So here you go!

In an example of colossal mission creep, what started out as a simple 3D printing hot end heater project ended up as complete custom lighting and gauge control system. How did two spanners from Shropshire with little knowledge of electronics and no experience of Arduinos pull it off?

In part 6 of our side project, after a brief hiatus, we make some more sweeping changes to the old library bus!

It was off the stands - you all saw it drive out of the shed. It was ready for MOT and shakedown. Then the flexi-shaft failed yet again and the toys went out of the pram.
